Underwater vehicle systems for military applications

Saab Seaeye offers high technology underwater vehicle systems for a wide range of applications that allow armed forces to enhance and extend their operational capabilities.

These systems are used for military operations:

  • Double Eagle MCM is a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) system that uses a modular approach to provide flexible systems for mine counter measure (MCM) operations. There are two configurations: mine hunting (Detection & Classification) and mine disposal (Identification & Disposal).
  • Double Eagle Sarov is a hybrid AUV/ROV system . that can operate as an AUV, with an onboard inertial navigation system allowing the vehicle to navigate over great distances and depths as a ROV. This configuration achieves a cost-effective operation for each kind of mission.
  • Subrov is a remotely operated vehicle system controlled and operated from a submarine with few or no changes to the submarine. The system comprises a ROV, a winch including a tether management system and an operator console. The applications are inspection/intervention, communication/surveillance, MCM and autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) recovery.
  • AUV62-AT is an artificial acoustic target that mimics a submarine in a way that is compatible with any torpedo- and sonar system on the market. It is intended for anti submarine warfare (ASW) operator training, as well as for onboard sonar, helicopter sonar and command system check-up. The system also plays an important part in the capability evaluation of an entire ASW force.

Double Eagle MCM System

The Double Eagle System uses a modular approach to provide flexible systems for MCM operations. The System provides a hydro-dynamically stable, highly reliable system with exceptional performance and low life cycle cost.

Navies around the world use the Double Eagle on many types of ships. It has also been adapted to Craft Of Opportunities (COOP), where Double Eagle is housed in a container that is easily installed on almost any type of ship.

The Double Eagle Sarov can operate as an AUV, with an onboard inertial navigation system allowing the vehicle to navigate over great distances and depths.

Alternatively the SUBROV can be operated via a several kilometre long fibre optical tether or a tether providing both power and real time communication for the vehicle. For MCM operations the Double Eagle SUBROV can be used for detection, classification, identification and disposal.

The SUBROV System system is an ROV system controlled and operated from a submarine. The system comprises an ROV, a winch including a tether management system and an operator console.

Aboard the submarine the system is handled like a heavy weight torpedo using the same handling equipment as a torpedo. It is launched and retrieved from a 21" torpedo tube.

The AUV62-AT System is intended for ASW operator training, as well as for on board sonar, helicopter sonar and command system check-up. The system also plays an important part in the capability evaluation of an entire ASW force.

The AUV62-AT is an artificial acoustic target that mimics a submarine in a way that is compatible with any torpedo and sonar system on the market, today and in the future.
